QUINCE, WESTGATE-ON-SEA. Michelin guide listed.

MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Two alumni of The Goods Shed in Canterbury are behind this unfussy modern bistro, which is a hit with locals and tourists alike. The simple dish descriptions on the concise seasonal menu belie the depth of the dishes, which are made with high quality ingredients and come with distinct flavours and textures. Smooth service adds to the experience.

Westgate is a small town which sits between Birchington and Margate. Easy to get to by train, the station sits on its Victorian high street with its pretty canopy covered  parade.
The parade of shops are for me local  convenience and curiosities, apart from a small Co-Op it is independent retailers hoping to make a humble living.

How on earth did a restaurant like QUINCE find itself here?
Why have they set up here when the 8th coolest place in the world is only 1 mile away?

Those questions, albeit valid I would venture, are hushed because of what it does. There is much to admire about that.

QUINCE proves location is not everything.
QUINCE proves that conviction to your self belief matters
QUINCE proves that originality, quality and consistency is key to attracting your target market.

So who and what is QUINCE?

Quince is run by chefs and co-owners Ben Hughes and Rafael Lopez, they opened in May 2022 The bistro-style restaurant has 32 covers and serves British ingredients, mostly from Kentish farms, with a southern Mediterranean flair.

The modern, no-frills dining room is as stripped-back and minimalist as the menu – four choices per course – with dishes revealing a commitment to local and regional suppliers.

The fact QUINCE has been featured in the Michelin guide within one year of opening is quite some achievement, and reading the reviews it is well deserved.
